Stewart Perlman is a retired physician, having practiced anesthesiology and acute pain management for over 33 years. He was in a group private practice for over 25 years and in academic medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee for 6 years. Dr. Perlman attended The University of Florida as an undergraduate, getting his Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology as a pre-medical student in 1976. He has very fond memories of his time at UF remembering a course that focused on the roots of Judaism and Christianity that helped form his understanding of Judeo-Christian theology until this day. Similarly, another course he took at UF was about an appreciation of Classical music for which he attributes his current enjoyment of listening to the likes of Beethoven, Bach, and Mozart. He now resides in Nashville, Tennessee with his wife Suzy who is a “first rate” Gator by Marriage (1983), for 33 years. They have three children: Alan, Daniel, UF BSBA, 2011, and Abby. Of additional note, Stewart’s father, Moe Perlman (BA ‘1951) played basketball for the Florida Gators as a walk-on.

Dr. Perlman enjoyed his many years of practicing the specialty of Anesthesiology and, particularly, enjoyed taking the extra time to explain the various modes of anesthesia or pain management he would use on his patients through the years. Additionally, Dr. Perlman started the first Acute Pain Service in Nashville, Tennessee in the hospitals he practiced in and presided over the management and implementation of the Acute Pain Service for over 10 years.
